Shorts: 192px top (10%), 480px bottom (25%), 0px left, 108px right on 1080x1920. Safe area 972x1248. Google keeps the top 10%, the bottom 25% and the right 10% of a Short for the channel name, the caption, the call to action and the engagement buttons.

How to size ads for YouTube

Cut two masters: 16:9 for in-stream and in-feed, 9:16 for Shorts. Google accepts every shape everywhere, but a horizontal video in Shorts plays between blurred bars and a vertical one in-stream plays between black ones.

Skippable ads earn the view in 5 seconds. Put the brand and the problem in that window, then let the rest run as long as it keeps people. The ad hooks page shows how the longest-running ads open.
