Google Ads limited by budget

Limited by budget means the campaign could show more, but the daily budget runs out first. If the campaign is profitable, raise the budget; if it is not, cut the keywords, locations and hours that waste it. Search lost IS (budget) tells you how much demand you are leaving behind.

Why it happens

The budget is small for the market

  1. The budget is small for the market

Competitive keywords at high CPCs spend a small budget in a few hours.

  2. Spend goes to waste first

Broad match, junk search terms and unprofitable locations eat budget before the good traffic arrives. See broad match wasting money.

  3. Bids or bid adjustments push cost up

High manual bids or large positive bid adjustments buy expensive clicks, so the same budget covers fewer auctions.

  4. A shared budget is split unevenly

Several campaigns on one shared budget, with one taking most of it.

How to fix it, step by step

  1. Measure the lost demand

Add Search lost IS (budget) to the Campaigns table. Above 10 to 20%, the budget is a real limit.

  2. Decide on profitability

Compare the campaign CPA or ROAS with your target. Raise the budget only on campaigns that hit it.

  3. Raise the budget

Click the budget in the Campaigns table, or use the budget recommendation in Recommendations, and raise it in steps of 20 to 30%.

  4. Or cut the waste

Pause zero-conversion keywords, add negatives from the search terms report, and trim locations and hours that do not convert.

  5. Lower bid adjustments

Reduce large location, device or audience adjustments so the budget buys more clicks.

Questions

Is limited by budget bad in Google Ads?

Only if the campaign is profitable and you have the money. Then it is demand you are leaving behind. If the campaign loses money, being limited protects you.

How much should I raise my budget?

In steps of 20 to 30%, watching CPA after each step. Large jumps can push the bid strategy back into learning.

Why is my campaign limited by budget but not spending it all?

Google averages spend over the month and can spend up to twice the daily budget on busy days, so single days can look under. Check monthly spend against daily budget times 30.4.

Can I fix limited by budget without spending more?

Yes. Cut waste, lower bids or bid adjustments, or narrow the targeting, so the same budget covers the auctions that convert.
