Inside Speak's Ads Strategy: How an AI Language App Runs Paid Through Locales

Speak is the AI language tutor that wants you talking out loud. French ads say it is 3.7× more effective. Korean ads scream a flash sale. Spanish ads put an AI tutor on the hook. And more than half of the Meta ads I read never open a website at all — they dump you into the App Store.

I pulled 560 Meta ads from their library, measured the top video files, resolved the start.speak.com onboard shells, walked the Korea and France landings, and read the 220 LinkedIn ads beside them.

Same split as Viktor, Clay, Wispr Flow and Suno: the Creative Factory, then the Performance Machine.

Speak ads: key findings

  • 560 Meta ads in the library (all with end dates in this snapshot)
  • 445 video (79%), 62 static, 53 carousel
  • 294 unique video files; top clones run 3–6 ad objects each
  • Funnel: App Store 237, start.speak.com 113, www.speak.com 112, Play Store 58, HubSpot 20
  • start.speak.com injects an onboard config with redirectType: "paywall"
  • Median short video ~22 seconds; a few long-form testimonials run past 3 minutes
  • 9:16 dominates (352 of the sized videos)
  • Partners: only 7 partnership ads across 4 names — almost none
  • LinkedIn: 220 ads, Asia B2B (JP / TW / CN HR outreach), not recruiting
  • Korea runs sales events + gated HR prompt packs on HubSpot with real UTM campaign names

The account got cut, then held

560 ads is the library at one point in time. Checking three earlier reads of the same account shows what got it there: a hard cut, not a slow decline. Active count fell from 494 to 380 in the first week I tracked it, then barely moved for the two weeks after — 380 to 377.

A chart showing Speak's active Meta ad count falling from 494 to 380 in one week, then holding flat at 377 for the next two.
Three real Meta Ad Library reads, 30 August to 17 September 2026.

Whatever prompted the cut — a policy sweep, an internal budget call, a pruning of underperformers — it happened once, fast, and then the account settled into a smaller, steadier size. That's a different shape than Viktor's or Wispr's, both of which grew through the same window.

Part 1: The Creative Factory

One product, many languages

FormatAdsShare
Video44579%
Static6211%
Carousel539%

Behind the video ads sit 294 unique files. Nothing clones like Suno's Studio unlock (29 objects). Speak spreads volume across many short cuts: the most-cloned files here sit at six and five objects.

The creative splits by market, not by format:

  • English: "Talk Out Loud. Get Feedback." and "Speak Spanish with your AI tutor."
  • French: "Un coach virtuel d'anglais", "Parlez en 7 jours", "3,7 plus efficace"
  • Polish / Italian: the same 3.7× efficacy claim, localized
  • Korean: sale banners, celebrity (Kim Woo-bin), New Year resolutions

The hook is the language of the market. The ask is almost always install or start a trial.

Hold the take. Grade the mouth.

Of the 17 short videos I measured under 90 seconds:

  • Median length about 22 seconds. A separate long-form lane runs 198–212 seconds.
  • 9:16 is the default. Squares show up on some web shells.
  • Median cuts in the first six seconds: 1. Some French and Spanish cuts jump harder (7–17).

Wispr cuts once and titles like TikTok. Suno holds a home studio for six seconds because the audio is the ad. Speak holds a face mid-sentence and drops a feedback card — the product is the correction.

A language app can afford to not cut. The mouth is the creative.

Here is a Talk Out Loud demo, beat by beat.

The statics are the locales

Polish "1000 sentences in 7 days." French "N°1 en 🇫🇷." Korean sale cards. Spanish tutor. And two HubSpot-bound HR prompt packs that do not look like consumer ads at all — they are B2B lead magnets riding the same Meta account.

Learn More is the soft ask

437 ads have no CTA string. Learn More is 69. See Details 31. Install Now only 19 — even though hundreds of destinations are store URLs. Meta's CTA field and the destination disagree often; the path is the real ask.

Headline tests recycle the same proof structures: efficacy multiplier, days-to-speak, celebrity, sale urgency. The variable is the language. The door stays install or onboard.

Part 2: The Performance Machine

Now the half you cannot see in the feed.

Four doors, one product

DoorAdsWhat it is
App Store id1286609883237Default consumer install. Biggest path in the library.
start.speak.com/*113Onboard quiz shells that redirect to a paywall.
www.speak.com locales112US try, France BAU, Korea event pages.
Play Store58Android twin of the App Store door.
HubSpot forms20Korea B2B MQLs with filled UTM campaign names.

Wispr hides campaign names behind short links you can resolve. Suno leaves Warp macros unfilled but shows the Statsig door. Speak does both store installs and a web onboard — and on HubSpot, the UTMs actually resolve.

How you get this without an ads manager login. The Meta Ad Library returns the destination string. Store URLs are the strategy for half the account. For web, fetch start.speak.com/{slug} and read window.__ONBOARD_CONFIG__ — that JSON is the funnel.

start.speak.com is a paywall machine

Fetch start.speak.com/speakcom-c0180 (or ce055, cfb78, c9d85) and you do not get a marketing page. You get a client shell that embeds:

FieldWhat it does
flowSlugWhich onboard flow this ad bought — e.g. speakcom-c0180
redirectTypeAlways paywall in the shells I opened
steps8–9 step indices: quiz → intent → paywall
theme.primaryColor#1c49ff Speak blue across flows
language / countryLocale baked into the config, not just the URL
The start.speak.com onboard shell loading screen before the quiz steps appear.
start.speak.com — Segment analytics, noindex, paywall redirect. The ad never has to change when the quiz does.

Same job Suno gives Statsig and Wispr gives Dub: keep the ad, swap the experience. Speak's version is an onboard flow ID in the path.

www.speak.com is the brand and the promo

The Speak homepage: the language learning app that gets you speaking, with a get-started CTA.
The brand door. Most paid traffic skips it for the store or start.speak.com.
Speak US try page promoting a 7-day free trial of the AI language tutor.
/us/try — Statsig + Amplitude + Segment + Webflow. Trial-forward.
Speak France back-to-school landing page.
/fr/bau — Back to school. Calendar creative for a locale.

Korea's event URLs (/ko/event/26sep-d100/home, early-bird, December brand) were the live promo doors in the library; some had already 404'd by the time I re-fetched them. The ads still point at the sale. The calendar is the campaign name.

Seven days free. Then Premium.

There's no pricing page on speak.com. The App Store listing is the only public number there is:

PlanMonthlyAnnualNotes
Trial——7 days full access, then charge
Premium~$18~$84Core tutor, roleplay, Ask Speak Tutor
Premium Plus~$40~$165Unlimited custom lessons + study plan

There is no durable free tier. The ad promises a trial; the store collects the card. That is why Install Now and the App Store path matter more than a marketing-site pricing table.

Korea is consumer sales and B2B MQLs

Twenty HubSpot form ads share filled UTMs. Example campaign names from the library:

  • APAC_KR_GatedContent_Downloaded_MQL_HRPrompt
  • APAC_KR_Audrey_MQL_Trial

Medium is image or carousel. Content is HRprompt. This is the opposite of Suno's unfilled Warp macros — Speak's Korea B2B lane writes the campaign name into the URL on purpose.

LinkedIn is the enterprise twin

220 LinkedIn ads. Not recruiting. Not product install. Asia B2B outbound: Japanese survey-for-report offers, Taiwan and China HR sequences from "Jamie" at Speak, training-budget objections, Starbucks-card incentives for form completes.

Meta is the consumer install channel. LinkedIn is the company training channel. Same product, different buyer.

Almost no Meta partners

Only 7 of 560 Meta ads are paid partnerships — four named creators. Speak is not running a Suno-style musician roster on Meta. The celebrity weight sits in Korea brand films (Kim Woo-bin), not in a partner gallery of dozens.

Portraits are Instagram profile photos where the account is public. Speak's Meta partner volume is tiny next to Suno's 122 partnership ads.

What actually makes this work

The Creative Factory is a localization desk. The same efficacy claim and talk-out-loud demo ship in French, Polish, Italian, Korean and Spanish — with sale and celebrity variants for Korea.

The Performance Machine is two doors. The App Store takes the install. start.speak.com takes the quiz and the paywall. HubSpot and LinkedIn take the company buyer in Asia.

Suno built a partner roster and a Statsig door. Speak built a language map and an onboard paywall.

Same job. Different machine.

Break down your own market

Everything above came from public ad activity read at scale. The Sprites ads library does this for any advertiser, and creative analytics does it for your own account: every live ad, the hooks, the landing pages and what changed this month.

Frequently asked questions

How many Meta ads is Speak running?

At collection the library held 560 Meta ads attributed to Speak. In this snapshot every object carried an end date, so the active count moves as new flights launch.

Where do Speak's Meta ads send people?

App Store (237), start.speak.com onboard shells (113), www.speak.com locale pages (112), Play Store (58) and HubSpot forms (20). More than half of the library ends on a store listing.

What is start.speak.com?

A client onboard shell. Each path embeds window.__ONBOARD_CONFIG__ with a flowSlug and redirectType set to paywall, so the ad opens a quiz that ends on payment without changing the ad object.

Does Speak use creator partners like Suno?

Barely. Only 7 of 560 Meta ads are paid partnerships across four named creators. Speak's celebrity weight shows up in Korea brand films, not a large partner roster.

How does Speak's pricing work?

A 7-day free trial, then Premium at about $18 a month or $84 a year, and Premium Plus at about $40 a month or $165 a year on the App Store listing. There is no durable free tier.

Does Speak advertise on LinkedIn?

Yes — 220 LinkedIn ads in the sample, almost all Asia B2B outreach to HR and L&D buyers in Japan, Taiwan and China. Meta is the consumer install channel; LinkedIn is the company training channel.
